IGF::OT::IGF CRYOGENIC SELF-CONTAINED BREATHING APPARATUS PROJECT THE PRIME ENGINEERING SUPPORT CONTRACTOR SHALL BE RESPONSIBLE FOR THE DESIGN, DEVELOPMENT, AND TESTING OF CRYOGENIC LIFE SUPPORT PROJECTS INCLUDING, BUT NOT LIMITED TO; A TWO HOUR LOW PROFILE LIQUID AIR FOR SCBA WITH AN ATTITUDE INDEPENDENT PICKUP, STORAGE AND FILLING STATION TO SUPPORT THE LIQUID AIR SCBA, LIQUID OXYGEN BASED RETROFIT KIT FOR EXISTING COMMERCIAL REBREATHERS, AND A LIQUID AIR BASED STORAGE SOLUTION FOR MINE SHELTER CHAMBERS. DESCRIPTION THE CONTRACTOR WILL PROVIDE PRIMARY ENGINEERING, DESIGN, AND MANUFACTURING SERVICES IN THE DEVELOPMENT OF VARIOUS CRYOGENIC LIFE SUPPORT PROTO-TYPE DEVELOPMENT PROJECTS. THE PROJECT INCLUDES THE FOLLOWING FOUR SUB-PROJECTS: 1. CRYOGENIC BREATHING APARATUS (CRYOBA) THIS SUB-PROJECT SHALL BE FOR THE PURPOSE OF DEVELOPING A TWO HOUR, LOW-PROFILE, LIQUID AIR SCBA PROTOTYPE WITH AN ATTITUDE INDEPENDENT PICK UP TERMED CRYOGENIC AIR BREATHING APPARATUS (CRYOBA) FOR USE IN ESCAPING FROM AN UNDERGROUND MINE. TWO PACKS WILL BE BUILT WITH THE INTENT OF MEETING THE PROVISIONAL CERTIFICATION CRITERIA UNDER 42CFR84. 2. LIQUID OXYGEN RETROFIT KIT (LOXK)- THIS SUB-PROJECT SHALL BE FOR THE PURPOSE OF DEVELOPING LIQUID OXYGEN SUPPLY SYSTEMS FOR EXISTING MINE ENTRY/RESCUE CLOSED CIRCUIT BREATHING APPARATUS (CCBA) I.E. DRAEGER BG4&BIOMARINE BIOPAK240R. THESE SYSTEMS WOULD REPLACE THE EXISTING COMPRESSED OXYGEN SUPPLY CYLINDER. THESE WILL BE DEVELOPED AS `KITS TO MODIFY THESE UNITS. ONE EACH OF THE DRAEGER AND BIOMARINE CLOSED CIRCUIT BREATHING APARATUS (CCBA) WILL BE THUS MODIFIED WITH THESE KITS AND TESTED TO VERIFY PERFORMANCE. FOUR PACKS WILL BE BUILT (TWO OF EACH TYPE) WITH THE INTENT OF MEETING THE PROVISIONAL CERTIFICATION CRITERIA UNDER 42CFR84. 3. CRYOGENIC AIR STORAGE AND FILL STATION (CRYOASFS) - THIS ANNEX SHALL BE FOR THE PURPOSE OF DEVELOPING CRYOASFS FOR THE CRYOGENIC AIR BREATHING APPARATUS (CRYOBA). SPECIFIC OBJECTIVES ARE TO CONDUCT A CONCEPT STUDY, FABRICATE, TEST AND DOCUMENT OPERATIONAL CRYOGENIC AIR SUPPLY SYSTEMS, AND ADAPT, EVALUATE IN CONJUNCTION WITH CRYOGENIC AIR BREATHING APPARATUS. FINAL DEMONSTRATION OF THE SYSTEM MAY OCCUR IN AN OPERATING UNDERGROUND COAL MINE OR NIOSH S SAFETY RESEARCH COAL MINE. 4. CRYOGENIC REFUGE ALTERNATIVE SUPPLY SYSTEM (CRYORASS) - THIS SUB-PROJECT SHALL BE FOR THE PURPOSE OF DEVELOPING CRYOGENIC SUPPLY SYSTEMS FOR REFUGE ALTERNATIVES. SPECIFIC OBJECTIVES ARE TO CONDUCT A FEASIBILITY STUDY FOR CRYOGENIC AIR AND OXYGEN APPLICATION, FABRICATE, TEST AND DOCUMENT OPERATIONAL PROTOTYPE SUPPLY SYSTEMS, AND ADAPT AND EVALUATE SYSTEMS FOR RETROFITTING INTO, OR IN CONJUNCTION WITH, EXISTING REFUGE CHAMBERS. FINAL DEMONSTRATION OF THE SYSTEM MAY OCCUR IN AN OPERATING UNDERGROUND COAL MINE OR NIOSH S SAFETY RESEARCH COAL MINE.
