THIS CONTRACT ADDRESSES FOCUSES ON MITIGATING FUEL LOADINGS TO REDUCE THE RISK OF FAST SPREADING WILDFIRE. IT INCLUDES FUEL HAZARD MITIGATION THROUGH BRUSH REMOVAL, PRIMARILY ALONG ROADS, TRAILS AND ESTABLISHED FUELBREAKS. IT ALSO INCLUDES BRUSH REMOVAL FROM THE UNDERSTORY OF PONDEROSA PINE STANDS TO MINIMIZE LADDERS FUELS AND RESTORE THESE FORESTS TO A MORE NATURAL, OPEN CONDITION. SLASH CHIPPING WILL REMOVE CONCENTRATIONS OF WOODY DEBRIS, ALSO IN AN EFFORT TO MINIMIZE THE RISK OF FIRE SPREAD. IN THE EVENT THAT ADDITIONAL OR LESS ACRES OR TREES ARE IDENTIFIED FOR ANY TASK, AN EQUITABLE AMOUNT OF ACRES OR TREES FROM OTHER TASKS MAY BE DECREASED OR INCREASED, USING ASSOCIATED PER UNIT COSTS. - $138,190 - Sunday the 30th of September 2012

THE FORESTS ON THE AIR FORCE ACADEMY HAVE FACED INORDINATE STRESSES OVER THE PAST SEVERAL YEARS. THESE HAVE INCLUDED A SEVERE AND PROLONGED DROUGHT, BARK BEETLE ATTACK, DWARF MISTLETOE INFECTION, AND OVERSTOCKED CONDITIONS. THIS CONTRACT ADDRESSES SEVERAL FACETS OF FOREST MANAGEMENT, INCLUDING THINNING OF PONDEROSA PINE FOREST TO ENHANCE TREE VIGOR AND RESTORE THE STAND TO A MORE PARK-LIKE CONDITION, AND REMOVING DEAD OR DYING, BEETLE-INFESTED OR UNHEALTHY INDIVIDUAL TREES. IT INCLUDES A SEPARATE TASK PRICING FOR INDIVIDUAL TREES THAT ARE TECHNICALLY CHALLENGING DUE TO CLOSE PROXIMITY TO INFRASTRUCTURE SUCH AS FENCES, BUILDINGS, UTILITIES, ETC. IN THE EVENT THAT ADDITIONAL OR LESS ACRES OR TREES ARE IDENTIFIED FOR ANY TASK, AN EQUITABLE AMOUNT OF ACRES OR TREES FROM OTHER TASKS MAY BE DECREASED OR INCREASED, USING ASSOCIATED PER UNIT COSTS.
