PWR REGIONAL CONTRACTING
THE PURPOSE OF THIS WORK IS TO REPLICATE AND INSTALL IRON HARDWARE AND AUTOMATIC DOOR CLOSURES FOR TWO DOORS ATTACHED TO THE COOK HOUSE AT SCOTTY S CASTLE HISTORIC DISTRICT AT DEATH VALLEY NATIONAL PARK (PARK). A. THE CONTRACTOR WILL EXAMINE EXISTING IRON HARDWARE ON THE EAST AND SOUTHWEST DOORS OF THE COOK HOUSE DINING ROOM TO DETERMINE WHICH WORKING ELEMENTS OF HISTORIC HARDWARE CAN BE RETAINED AND WHICH WILL REQUIRE REPRODUCTION. ANY MEASUREMENTS FOR SPECIFICATIONS SHOULD BE DONE AT THIS TIME. THE CURATOR AND/OR CULTURAL RESOURCE MANAGER WILL BE PRESENT TO ANSWER QUESTIONS. B. PRIOR TO ON-SITE WORK, CONTRACTOR WILL COLLABORATE WITH PARK CURATOR TO DISCUSS AND DETERMINE STRATEGY FOR REPLICATING AND REPLACING HARDWARE ON THE EAST AND SOUTHWEST DOORS, AND INSTALLATION OF AN AUTOMATIC DOOR CLOSURES ON THE EAST DOOR . C. PRIOR TO ON-SITE WORK, CONTRACTOR WILL SUBMIT DRAWINGS OF PROPOSED REPRODUCTIONS AND DOOR CLOSURE FOR PARK REVIEW. D. REPRODUCTION HARDWARE WILL CLOSELY APPROXIMATE HARDWARE CURRENTLY INSTALLED, BUT WILL BE FUNCTIONAL. REPRODUCTION HINGES FOR SOUTHWEST DOOR WILL APPROXIMATE THAT OF EAST DOOR (CURRENT HARDWARE IS INAPPROPRIATE FOR THE SOUTHWEST DOOR). BOTH DOORS REQUIRE RE-WORKING OF DESIGN FOR LATCH AND DOOR HANDLE SYSTEMS. NEW SYSTEMS MUST ALLOW DOORS TO BE SECURELY LOCKED. NEW DEADBOLTS MAY BE REQUIRED. E. HARDWARE WILL BE REPRODUCED USING TRADITIONAL BLACKSMITHING, HAND TOOLING AND FINISHING METHODS WHERE POSSIBLE. THE COLOR AND FINISH WILL MATCH CURRENT HARDWARE, WHICH IS A SLIGHTLY RUSTED PATINA WITH SUBTLE BLACK HIGHLIGHTS. F. THE AUTOMATIC DOOR CLOSURE WILL BE MODIFIED TO APPEAR HISTORIC AND TO PROVIDE LEAST VISUAL AND PHYSICAL IMPACT TO THE HISTORIC BUILDING. G. PRIOR TO ON-SITE WORK, CONTRACTOR WILL OUTLINE NEEDS REGARDING ANTICIPATED SITE STAFF ASSISTANCE DURING THE INSTALLATION OF REPRODUCTION HARDWARE AND AUTOMATIC DOOR CLOSURE. H. UPON COMPLETION OF THE INSTALLATION, CONTRACTOR WILL MEET WITH PARK CURATOR AND/OR CULTURAL RESOURCE MANAGER BRIEFLY TO ENSURE PROPER OPERATION OF HARDWARE.
